Home and community support
Postnatal Practical Support
Practical help for new mothers and families during the early weeks and months after birth, allowing more time for rest, recovery and family routines.

In practice
What this support includes
- Practical help with the baby while the parent rests, within the agreed non-clinical role
- Laundry, tidying and light household tasks
- Meal preparation and batch cooking
- Shopping and errands
- Calm daytime companionship and practical assistance
This is practical household and family support. It is not maternity care, midwifery, nursing, sleep training or clinical postnatal care.
Step by step
How postnatal support is arranged
- 1
Tell us the early-weeks plan
Share the routine at home and where practical help would make the biggest difference.
- 2
Agree the hours
We confirm the days, hours and tasks in writing, including any package hours booked in advance.
- 3
Meet your support worker
The same support worker wherever possible, so the household keeps a familiar routine.
- 4
Adjust as things change
Hours and tasks can be reviewed as the family settles into new routines.
Tell us what would help
Support is arranged across North London and Bedfordshire after an initial discussion, with hours and charges confirmed in writing.
